Absolutely disgusting.

Over the years (and years, and years, and years) that Mitch McConnell has been in the United States Senate, he has pulled countless stunts and schemes that undeniably prove that he is a God-awful human being in every conceivable way. However, this particular stunt f his may very well go down in the books as the most disgusting, horrifying one yet.

No one will soon forget the impact that the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg had on this nation. Even many Republicans were willing to admit that she was an icon for women, girls, civil rights activists, and humankind in general, the world-round. Her death sent a rippling shockwave of heartbreaking, resounding loss, and even fear throughout this nation. She paved the path for people like me, all the way up to Vice President Kamala Harris, and she deserved all the honor and respect this country has to offer.

However, Mitch McConnell made sure she did not get that.

USA Today Washington Bureau Chief Susan Page has interviewed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi 10 times and conducted 150 additional interviews in connection to her upcoming book about Pelosi titled, Madam Speaker.

An excerpt of the forthcoming book obtained and reported on by Punchbowl News tells of Speaker Pelosi’s interaction with Senator McConnell in the days following Ginsburg’s death and frankly, it’s even more disgusting than we’ve come to expect from the high-profile Republican.

After Ginsburg’s September 2020 death from cancer, Speaker Pelosi suggested that the late Supreme Court Justice should lie in state in the Capitol Rotunda, which would have made her the first woman in United States history to receive such an honor. But Mitch McConnell was having none of it.

Excerpts from the book state:

McConnell rejected the idea on the grounds that there was no precedent for such treatment of a justice. When William Howard Taft had lain in state in 1930, he had not only been the chief justice but also president, McConnell noted.

He wasn’t swayed by the argument that Ginsburg had achieved an iconic status in American culture, especially for women and girls. McConnell’s refusal meant that Ginsburg’s flag-draped coffin was placed not in the Rotunda, which connects the House and Senate, but in Statuary Hall, on the opposite side.”

To make matters that much worse, I’m sure you recall that McConnell and some of his fellow Republicans, such as House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, didn’t even attend Justice Ginsburg’s services.

Then, as if that wasn’t enough, McConnell ramrodded the confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett before the ink on RBG’s death certificate had barely had time to dry.

The next time an election rolls around, keep this in mind.

Page’s book is set to be released on the 20th of this month.
