As a lifelong Democrat, I have never been impressed by the Republican party in any way. In fact, I have generally found myself completely disgusted by the whole lot of them at least daily. Once Donald Trump took office and turned an already bad party that much worse, that went from at least once daily to at least several times a day.
However, in all of the disgusting, awful, horrible, gross, troubling, confusing, terrible things that the Republican party has pulled, I have never in all of my life found myself quite as sickened as I have been this week, after witnessing their heinous, horrifying responses to Russia’s catastrophic invasion and attack against Ukraine.
We’ve spent a good portion of this week reporting on Donald Trump’s highly troubling public praises for the Russian dictatorial President Vladimir Putin. Even before the situation reached a catastrophic height late last night, Trump spent most of his time earlier this week heaping glorification on his favorite dictator. During an interview, the disgraced ex-president referred to Putin as “savvy,” calling his military tactics “genius,” and even went so far as to suggest that we needed to employ something similar at the US southern border.
Since the invasion and attack against Ukraine, Donald Trump has done nothing but double down, ultimately calling into Fox News pretty much immediately last night to lob excuses out for what President Putin has done, and lay the blame for attack on President Biden’s “weakness” and his 2020 election loss, going on to earn himself a cut-off interview once he began to rant about the Big Lie.

The rhetoric and behavior we’ve seen from Donald Trump this week have been enough to make even Fox News do a double-take, and desperately try to do some damage control over their Dear Leaders praises for a heinous dictator. Even Trump’s own former Chief-of-Staff John Kelly spoke out on how disturbing this response has been.
But to make an already bad situation that much worse, it’s not just Donald Trump that is responding to this invasion, attack, and Vladimir Putin himself in this deeply disturbing way. It’s Republicans as a whole.
Today, Delaware GOP’s 2020 Senate candidate, Lauren Witzke issued a public response to the recent catastrophic developments, and to be frank, she put Donald Trump’s praises to shame.
“Here’s the deal, Russia is a Christian nationalist nation, actually,” Witzke declared. “I actually support Putin’s right to protect his people and always put his people first, but also protect their Christian values. I identify more with Putin’s Christian values than I do with Joe Biden.”
“Putin takes care of his people. He looks out for his people… I can respect that.”
