House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy previously said that Trump is responsible for the Capitol’s insurrection on Jan. 6, but said he would oppose impeachment. That didn’t sit well with the former president. Then, McCarthy walked that back and said the complete opposite of what he said just a few days earlier.

Trump is facing a historic second impeachment trial in the US Senate. The House of Representatives impeached Trump for inciting the violent insurrection, and it’s unlikely he will be convicted since Republicans just can’t seem to let go of Trump.

Fox News reports that Trump put part of the blame for the riots on McCarthy.

“In the aftermath, McCarthy opposed impeaching Trump but was open to a censure resolution,” the report states. “But McCarthy more recently expressed concerns about GOP conference chairwoman Liz Cheney’s vote to impeach Trump.”

“A source told Fox News that at one point Trump told McCarthy that he bore some of the blame for the Capitol riot,” the report adds.

Trump has never accepted responsibility for inciting the riots that resulted in deaths, chaos, mayhem, and destruction. As for McCarthy, Politico reported that he said he “does not believe former President Donald Trump incited the riot at the Capitol earlier this month, pivoting away from comments he made last week that the president bore some responsibility for the assault.”

“I don’t believe he provoked it if you listen to what he said at the rally,” McCarthy (R-Calif.) told reporters.

Well, that’s enough to give you whiplash. Donald Trump and those in his orbit have gaslit us for four long years. We know what we saw and what we heard at the “stop the steal” rally. Trump had been trying to overturn the election results after being soundly defeated by Joe Biden in both the electoral and popular vote.

The Department of Justice said they had identified hundreds of people that took part in the insurrection. USA Today listed 155 arrests so far. Trump has never taken responsibility for his actions. And if we didn’t have gutless Republicans in the Senate, he would finally learn the word consequences.
