Boy, the Republican corruption is absolutely on fire these days.

For the party of “family values,” “old-school principles,” and the “good ole boys,” these fools sure do seem to be lading their corrupt asses in jail, or at least some serious hot water, every time we turn around at this point.

According to a new report from CNN, Nebraska Republican House Rep. Jeff Fortenberry has announced his plan to leave Congress by month’s end, on March 31st (just five short days from now,) following his jury conviction on three different felony charges.

Fortenberry announced his resignation to his supporters in an email message sent out today.

“Due to the difficulties of my current circumstances, I can no longer effectively serve,” the Republican House Rep. admitted in the email sent to his base.

A special election will be called by Nebraska’s Governor Pete Ricketts to fill the vacancy Fortenberry will be leaving behind in the state’s first congressional district.

The soon-to-be-former Nebraska GOP lawmaker was officially convicted by a jury on the federal charges lodged against him and now awaits his June 28 sentencing hearing, where he could be slapped with up to 15 years in prison for his crimes.

Fortenberry found himself thoroughly blasted by IRS Criminal Investigation Special Agent in Charge Ryan L. Korner following the jury’s guilty verdict.

“Jeff Fortenberry lied to federal agents in order to cover up illegal contributions to his re-election campaign,” Korner explained in his blast against the corrupt Republican congressman. “The guilty verdict today shows that no one is above the law, and IRS-CI and our law enforcement partners will continue to hold our public servants accountable.”

Can we finally admit now that there are no “family values” or “old-fashioned principles” to be found in this God-awful party? There’s nothing more than conmen, corruption, and a heap of self-servitude.
