According To Reports, Trump Didn’t Take COVID-19 Seriously Until One Of His Friends Tested Positive

This isn't the slightest bit surprising.

If Donald Trump has made anything clear throughout this coronavirus pandemic, it’s the fact that at the end of the day, he doesn’t care whether you live or die.

Trump’s biggest concern throughout this entire outbreak has been limited to himself, in some way or another — mostly boiling down to his precious economy and the slim chance at another four years in the White House — so much so that he hung tight to the idea of a reopened country with churches packed to the brim by Easter.

However, it’s been impossible to notice that here lately he has definitely shifted when it comes to his tone surrounding the pandemic. What was once disgustingly blind optimism is now certainly a bit more somber, and dare I say even realistic.

He’s by no means where he should be in regard to his response, but even still, it’s pretty plain to see that something has happened that’s forced Trump into taking this whole ordeal a bit more seriously and it seems that Vanity Fair may have figured it out.

“Trump’s latest tonal and tactical shift (and almost certainly not the last) was driven by several factors, both personal and political. Trump learned that his close friend, 78-year-old New York real estate mogul Stan Chera, had contracted COVID-19 and fallen into a coma at NewYork-Presbyterian,” the Vanity Fair report reads.

One prominent New York Trump donor, Bill White, states, “Boy, did that hit home. Stan is like one of his best friends.”

While it seems that Trump’s ill friend may have kicked him into gear a bit, it’s unsurprising that it was the polling numbers coming in as the deadly virus spread into some of his key states that really dug the spurs into his sides.

“The polling sucked. The campaign panicked about the numbers in red states. They don’t expect to win states that are getting blown to pieces with coronavirus.”

The report indicates that Trump recently confided in a friend, stating, “The campaign doesn’t matter anymore. What I do now will determine if I get re-elected.”

I’m all for the president of this nation taking seriously a pandemic that is killing us by the thousands. But don’t let this little revelation fool you — Donald Trump’s concern is still deeply rooted in nothing more than his own political gain. And while he may care that his friend has fallen ill, I can guarantee that he’s still more than willing to sacrifice our parents and grandparents should it mean another four years of torturing the United States.
