Bill Barr Announces No One Can Investigate 2020 Candidates, Including Trump, Without His Prior Approval

How convenient.

According to a new report from the New York Times, Donald Trump’s Attorney General Bill Barr is doing everything within his power to make sure that another investigation into his boss can’t turn out to be a problem for them, because it will never be allowed to happen in the first place.

In an unprecedented move yesterday, Barr implemented new restrictions that prevent any entity from opening a politically sensitive investigation into presidential candidates — supposedly to prevent the investigation from interfering with election results.

Barr announced the new restrictions in a memo on the heels of the rather damning Inspector General report that dropped a few months ago. In the announcement, Barr cited the Justice Department’s obligation to ensure that presidential elections are “free from improper activity or influences” and was coincidentally sent out on the very same day as Trump’s hack job acquittal in the Senate.

The memo clearly states that any entity under the authority of the Justice Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation included, would no longer have the ability to open an investigation into any 2020 presidential candidate without first obtaining his express permission.

“In certain cases, the existence of a federal criminal or counterintelligence investigation, if it becomes known to the public, may have unintended effects on our elections,” the Attorney General wrote in his announcement.

He wrote that the Department of Justice would be expected to respond “swiftly and decisively” to anything deemed a credible threat to the electoral process he went on to add, “we also must be sensitive to safeguarding the department’s reputation for fairness, neutrality, and nonpartisanship.”

Inquiries and investigations relating to “illegal contributions, donations or expenditures by foreign nationals to a presidential or congressional campaign” must also first be submitted to Barr in writing and receive express written permission back before they’re allowed to proceed.

Let’s face it, folks, this new rule does technically include the other presidential candidates running this year. However, the discretion is left solely up to Barr himself. We know the only individual that be receiving a big “Hell no” in regard to investigations against him. And it ain’t Joe Biden.

Thankfully, Congress does not fall under the authority of the Department of Justice, so Democrats are free to carry on any investigation they like.
