Always look for the helpers.

The beloved Fred Rogers, of the sweet Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood that so many of us grew up on, once famously said, “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.'”

While the late Mr. Rogers is no longer here on earth to help guide those who need it most, his words have never rung more true — Just look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.

Even when it seems like everything is falling apart, like things will never be the same, you can always find the good in this world, the hidden heroes, the helpers, as long as you look for them.

World-renowned Spanish American chef, restaurateur, and philanthropist José Andrés is the embodiment of the very helpers that our beloved Mr. Rogers was talking about so many years ago, as he uses his clout, power, platform, and his money to set up mobile kitchens throughout various Ukrainian borders to help feed the Ukrainian people who are fleeing their own country to escape the heinous Russian invasion and attack.

Captioning a video he recently posted on his Twitter account, the 52-year-old philanthropist chef wrote, “People of the World… Like you, I am distraught watching Ukraine under attack. We must come together as a force for good!”

Andrés goes on to note that his not-for-profit organization, World Central Kitchen (WCK), has boots on the ground at the Ukraine/Poland border, where they are working tirelessly to feed Ukrainian refugees who are fleeing war, and Romania is coming soon. He also notes that in addition to the donations made by his fans and followers, he will also be “committing support” from the $100 million Jeff Bezos grant he won in 2021 for his extensive humanitarian work.

During the clip,  Andrés described all of the helpers he has witnessed coming together for the health and safety of the Ukrainian people whose lives have been brutally turned upside down.

“We see that the international Red Cross is putting together shelters,” the chef says. “We already see that Polish people are already feeding people as they cross the border. We are seeing people in Ukraine taking care of people and doing the best they can under the circumstances.”

Andrés recently posted footage of himself bundled up in warm clothes as he personally served dinner, such as hot chicken stew and apple pie, to refugees at the Ukrainian border. The chef estimated that his non-profit has served more than 8,000 meals so far.

Addressing his more than 1 million followers on Twitter, the philanthropist chef wrote, “It is below freezing tonight & I am meeting so many refugees, families who are escaping & don’t know what’s next… We will do our best not to let them down.”

Andrés has said that he and his non-profit will physically enter Ukraine to assist inside the country as soon as it is safe to do so.
