House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) on Wednesday defended freshman Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) following an uproar over her penchant for violent rhetoric and insane conspiracy theories. McCarthy went on to feign ignorance of QAnon, the right-wing conspiracy theory that alleges that Democrats drink blood, worship Satan, and eat babies. Instead of removing Greene from committees, the Georgia Republican reportedly got a standing ovation from her colleagues.

McCarthy denied knowing anything about QAnon.

“I think it would be helpful if you could hear exactly what she told all of us — denouncing Q-on, I don’t know if I say it right, I don’t even know what it is,” he said.

But that’s not true, as CNN displayed on Thursday morning with a clip of McCarthy claiming that he didn’t know what QAnon was, and then they rolled a clip from last August of the House Minority Leader telling Fox News, “There’s no place for QAnon in the Republican Party.”

“So in August he didn’t support it, and last night he didn’t know what it was,” host Alisyn Camerota said, then went on to call it “willful ignorance.”

“It’s absurd,” political analyst Ryan Lizza chimed in. “He probably noticed the mob vandalizing and sacking the Capitol on January 6th, that half of them had giant Qs on their chests. And last night, he spent a couple of hours in a conference meeting where one of the big issues was one of his members’ conspiratorial views that were mostly about this QAnon conspiracy.”

Lizza continued to say that it’s “ridiculous” to think that McCarthy has never learned about QAnon since the conspiracy theory is “tearing his party apart and leading to violence in the Capitol.”

Watch:

The FBI has deemed QAnon to be a domestic terrorism threat, so it’s hard to believe that McCarthy didn’t know anything about the conspiracy theory that laughably claims that Donald Trump has been planning a day called the “Storm” in which thousands of members of the Satan-worshipping cabal will be arrested. The arrested, of course, include Hillary Clinton, former President Barack Obama, and George Soros. And now, the GOP is the party of QAnon.
