Columbia University Physician Blasts Trump For Insulting Institution: “Me And My Colleagues Have Treated Thousands Of COVID Patients. We Are Not Disgraceful”

The good doctor put Trump is his place.

A medical doctor from the Columbia University Medical Center responded to President Donald Trump’s attack on the institution, and Trump should feel ashamed.

During an interview on Full Measure with Sharyl Attkisson, Trump was asked about a study conducted by the university that shows up to 30,000 Americans could have been saved had he acted just one week sooner in response to the coronavirus than he did.

As we all know, Trump refused to take the pandemic seriously throughout February, even going so far as to call it a “hoax” and insist that the few cases found here would be “zero” in no time.

Well, it’s been nearly three months, and the current death toll is about to reach 100,000 Americans.

But rather than acknowledge he made mistakes that cost lives and take any responsibility whatsoever, Trump lashed out at the institution by referring to it as a “liberal, disgraceful institution.”

Again, this is a study conducted by a universally respected Ivy League university with an impeccable reputation. It’s most certainly NOT Trump University. And the insult comes from a man who is threatening to sue his own alma mater if they ever release his obviously embarrassing grades to the public.

Trump’s attack particularly insulted Dr. Craig Spencer, a physician at the medical center who has treated many coronavirus patients alongside his colleagues, risking their own health and lives every day in order to save others.

In response to Trump, Spencer pointed out the hard work he and his colleagues have been performing under great stress and shared an article he wrote describing their sacrifice while telling Trump that Columbia University is far from disgraceful.

Indeed, medical personnel across the country have been desperate for personal protective gear as supplies run out due to the high infection rate. The demand for ventilators has also been high but Trump and his administration dropped the ball on getting these vital supplies to hospitals.

Medical workers have faced separation from their families, long hours and exhaustion and heartbreak. Trump should have more respect for them.

And now Trump is making the pandemic worse by pressuring states to reopen too early, resulting in a second wave of the virus that has already begun, ensuring that the death toll will go beyond 100,000 for sure.

If anyone is disgraceful, it’s Trump. He should have listened to doctors from the start. If he had taken this virus seriously when he had the chance, tens of thousands of Americans would be alive today instead of being buried in mass graves.
