In a blistering column for The Atlantic, conservative Christian and former senior adviser to George W. Bush, Peter Wehner, called Donald Trump out for his “cruelty” regarding the president’s latest disgusting smear campaign against MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough, a former Republican Congressman from Florida.

As I’m sure you’re well aware by now, the president of this country has spent the last several days publicly demanding that an investigation be launched against the popular MSNBC host in connection to the 2001 death of Lori Klausutis.

Klaisutis was formerly a congressional staffer who passed out and fatally hit her head while working in Scarborough’s office in Florida.

Over the past few days, Trump has relentlessly demanded investigations into Scarborough and blatantly accused him of murdering the former staffer, despite the fact that Joe was in Washington D.C. at the time of the tragic, untimely death and the resounding lack of evidence of foul play regarding Lori’s passing.

The whole situation has mounted so far that Lori’s husband, Timothy Klausutis, was recently forced to pen a letter outlining the pain and suffering that has resulted from Donald Trump’s baseless and cruel allegations.

But, Trump being Trump, Timothy’s plea fell on deaf ears, and the president simply marched on with his baseless, disgusting smear campaign.

And Wehner, in his fiery column, points out that this is exactly what makes Donald Trump so drastically different from all the administrations to come before him.

“Donald Trump doesn’t merely want to criticize his opponents; he takes a depraved delight in inflicting pain on others, even if there’s collateral damage in the process, as is the case with the Klausutis family,” the former senior advisor to Bush penned in his column. “There’s something quite sick about it all.”

Wehner goes on to quote Klausutis’ letter to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, citing the “frequency, intensity, ugliness, and promulgation of these horrifying lies” that have been allowed to continue thanks wholly to Dorsey’s social media platform that’s been utilized by Trump, virtually completely unchecked.

Wehner points out that Trump’s complete and resounding lack of empathy for Lori’s clearly suffering husband is just yet another indicator of the current president’s ineptitude and unfitness for the office of president to the United States.

“There is a wickedness in our president that long ago corrupted him,” the conservative Christian concluded. “It’s corrupted his party. And it’s in the process of corrupting our country, too.”
