Democratic Rep Fact Checks Matt Gaetz After He Goes On Rant About How Democrats Are Too Busy With Impeachment To Do The People’s Business

Gaetz was just put in his place.

Donald Trump and his Republican enablers have intentionally pushed a false narrative to accuse House Democrats of getting nothing done in Congress and being consumed solely with impeachment. Of course,  the “Do Nothing Democrats” have passed nearly 400 bills but Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is only focused on packing the courts with unqualified extremists.

Rep. David Cicilline (D-RI) took Matt Gaetz (R-FL) to the woodshed after the Florida Republican used that false talking point at the impeachment hearing in the House Judiciary Committee. That seems to be a popular lie with Republicans as the impeachment inquiry continues, but Cicilline wasn’t having any of it.

“Why won’t you help us move on critical issues that are far more important than your partisan impeachment?” Gaetz shouted out. Cicilline calmly addressed Gaetz and said, “This has been one the most productive Congresses in modern history. We’ve passed nearly 400 pieces of legislation that respond to the urgent priorities of the American people.”

Cicilline went on to list the issues Democrats have addressed, then noted that 275 of those bills are “fully bipartisan.” Cicilline said that 80 percent of those bills are sitting on the Senate Majority Leader’s desk. While Cicilline said they will continue to take up important issues, he said, “We were also elected to hold this president accountable.”

We took an oath of office that said to protect and defend the Constitution and that’s what we’re engaged in today,” he added.

Watch:

The bills have ended up in McConnell’s so-called “legislative graveyard,” a moniker McConnell has proudly adopted. Republicans, including their “president,” are good at projection because it is their party that is not doing their jobs by passing needed legislation. And Matt Gaetz seems to think that his job is to defend Donald Trump. However, that’s not in his job description, nor is it why his constituents elected him. Matt Gaetz is Jim Jordan but with a jacket on.

If Trump’s phone call with Ukraine’s president was so “perfect” then he shouldn’t need an entire party to defend him. Just release the full transcript, Mr. President, Sir.
