Denmark Does Not Have A COVID Outbreak And Their Officials Just Refused To Shake Mike Pompeo’s Hand Upon His Arrival To The Country

This is awkward.

In contrast to the United States, Denmark has weathered the COVID-19 crisis with a relatively low rate of infection and mortality. Other countries must be horrified as the number of deaths and infections rises daily in the U.S. while we’re left with a president that surrendered to the coronavirus without putting up a fight. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo traveled to Denmark and tried to shake hands with officials there amid the raging pandemic during his trip to Europe on Wednesday.

Washington Post national security reporter John Hudson detailed what happened when Pompeo tried to shake hands with multiple officials, including Danish Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod and Greenlandic Foreign Minister Steen Lynge. Guys, it’s kind of a thing now not to touch peoples’ hands amid the COVID-19 pandemic. World leaders are seen in video clips bumping elbows, but never shaking hands. Pompeo is an embarrassment.

“In Denmark (which does not have a corona outbreak) Pompeo went to shake hands w/ the Danish Foreign Minister, who didn’t offer his hand back,” Hudson tweeted. “Pompeo extended his hand to the Faroese FM who also would not shake hands. Pompeo then elbow bumped with the Greenlandic FM.”

Watch:

It’s amateur hour with the Trump administration. We have a president that has refused to wear a protective face mask for months, and then when he does so, Donald Trump calls himself a “patriot.” And there is a lot of footage of members of Donald’s administration disregarding the basic guidelines meant to help flatten the coronavirus curve. And now we have Donald Trump’s Secretary of State extending his hand to Danish officials with a total lack of concern for others amid the pandemic.

Trump has failed to lead by example during the multiple national crises Americans are suffering through. Pompeo is just following his boss’s lead, where rules only apply to the little people. And with the number of COVID cases in the U.S. right now, why would anyone shake an American’s hand?
