Despite Mass Closings, Trump Personally Convinced UFC CEO To Continue Public Events

This is insane!

At this point, the entire nation has all but shut down due to the rapid spread of the coronavirus.

Schools across the country have closed their doors for no less than two weeks, universities have switched to online courses only, massive events like NBA games and Broadway shows have been canceled until further notice, Disney World has closed up shop, and people are being asked to work from home if at all possible to avoid social contact in an effort to cut down on the spread of the virus.

Quite literally every entity with any kind of authority in this ordeal, including the CDC as well as the WHO, has made it strikingly clear that people really need to stay home and avoid crowds. Donald Trump knows this.

However, according to a new report from TMZ, he still doesn’t particularly care.

UFC CEO Dana White recently spoke with ESPN and revealed that he intends to keep their events on the schedule and open to the public after a conversation with Trump in which he encouraged Dana to “live your life and stop panicking.”

“I talked to the President and the Vice President of the United States today about this and they’re taking this very serious and they’re saying ‘be cautious and be careful but live your life and stop panicking,'” Dana told ESPN.

“Everybody is panicking and instead of panicking we’re actually getting out there and working with doctors and health officials and the government to figure out how to keep the sport safe and how we can continue to put on events.”

This seems like as good a time as any to remind us all that officials aren’t just worried about people contracting the virus in crowded public places — they’re concerned about people becoming carriers of the deadly virus and then spreading it to everyone they come into contact with afterward.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said, “I can’t give you a number. I can’t give you a realistic number until we put into the factor of how we respond. If we’re complacent and don’t do really aggressive containment and mitigation, the number could go way up and be involved in many, many millions.”

As of now, the UFC intends to move forward with tomorrow night’s fight between Kevin Lee and Charles Oliveira.
