The stupidity is really strong in this one.

Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) delivered what may be the most reckless and stupid advice possible as the country continues to deal with the coronavirus pandemic during an interview on Fox News.

States and the federal government are warning against public gatherings in an effort to slow or stop the virus from spreading.

In fact, National Institutes of Health infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci told CBS on Sunday that he “wouldn’t go to a restaurant” right now. Indeed, food preparers and servers could be carrying the virus and not know it, and so could patrons. Coronavirus is highly contagious, making it a disease that puts everyone at high risk in public places such as restaurants.

The most logical course of action, therefore, is to stay at home. But on Sunday, Nunes undermined the message from health experts by urging people to go out to eat because they can “get in easily.”

First, he tried to ease the panic that has gripped the nation by telling the public to not go out and hoard water and toilet paper.

“What the American people need to understand is we need to stop panicking,” Nunes said. “There’s no shortage of food in this country. People don’t need to go to the store and fight over a bottle of water or toilet paper.”

That’s true. Of course, President Donald Trump’s failure to respond to the outbreak and be transparent with the American people about it is what caused the panic in the first place.

Nunes then flip-flopped by saying people should buy food even though he had just said there’s enough food for everyone.

“We want you to buy food!” he exclaimed.

Then he gave Americans the worst possible advice in the middle of a pandemic.

“There’s a lot of concerns with the economy here because people are scared to go out,” he began. “But I will just say, one of the things you can do if you’re healthy, you and your family, it’s a great time to just go out, go to a local restaurant. Just don’t run to the grocery store and buy $4,000 of food! Go to your local pub.”

This is a colossally bad idea that will only spread the virus further and make more people sick. In fact, more people could die because of this terrible advice. And Fox News should be ashamed for letting Nunes spew this dangerous misinformation that goes completely against what health officials are advising.
