Donald Trump’s smarmy namesake son went on a hunting trip in Mongolia that cost taxpayers a lot more than Secret Service was willing to admit at the time, according to new documents obtained by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW).
Don Jr. killed the sheep in August on the taxpayer dime as the United States slipped toward an economic recession on his father’s watch. The Argali sheep is an endangered species and is considered the largest sheep in the world. Don Jr. also killed it without a proper permit before being awarded one retroactively by the Mongolian government after using his family connections.
This also occurred as Don Jr. and his father attacked Hunter Biden for being on the board of a Ukrainian gas company while his father was vice president.
So, this story has a little of everything. Hypocrisy, fleecing taxpayers, nepotism, corruption, and the further pushing of a species toward extinction.

But it’s the fleecing of taxpayers that is the focus here because it turns out that the whole trip cost way more than what the Trump administration had previously claimed.
According to CREW:
Donald Trump Jr.’s controversial trophy hunting trip to Mongolia cost taxpayers nearly $60,000 more than the government previously disclosed, according to documents obtained by CREW after suing over a Freedom of Information Act request. CREW originally received Secret Service documents in March that showed that Secret Service protection for the trip cost at least $17,000, a fraction of the more than $75,000 it actually cost taxpayers.
Because the original figure appeared to be an undercount and did not include any mention of Don Jr.’s stop in Ulaanbaatar, where he met privately with the Mongolian president, or flight costs, CREW appealed the request. The new records show that the full cost of the trip was actually $76,859.36, including the first and second round of receipts provided to CREW.”
It’s one thing to have Secret Service protection if you work in the White House or are a minor child of the president. But Don Jr. is a grown a** man and a private citizen who should be paying his own security costs. American taxpayers should not be on the hook for a hunting trip tab, and Don Jr. should be billed by the United States government and forced to pay the money back.
