Donald Trump Responds To WaPo’s Misquoting Of His Call With GA Official, Calls It A “Media Travesty”

"Me, me, me, me, me!"

Former President Trump on Monday responded to a correction to a Washington Post story that initially claimed that he had asked the top Georgia elections investigator to “find the fraud” in the state’s voting tally. Right-wing sites are running with this correction as proof that Trump has been wrongly accused, however — and this is a big however — we’ve all heard the tapes of the former president’s phone call with Georgia officials, so he’s most definitely not off the hook.

Initially, the newspaper claimed that Trump on December 23, 2020, asked the Georgia investigator in a phone call to “find the fraud” and said that the investigator would be “a national hero,” citing a source who was familiar with the call. But, after the Wall Street Journal published a recording of the call last week, it revealed that the former president told investigator Frances Watson that she would be “praised” when the “right answer comes out.”

Again, though, we all heard the tapes.

“When the right answer comes out, you’ll be praised,” Trump told the investigator. “Whatever you can do, Frances, it’s a great thing, it’s an important thing for the country, so important. You have no idea, so important.”

Still, Trump responded by lashing out at the media, and by spreading his big lie of the election being stolen — again. But, we’re not going to offer any quotes on that right now. He’s just a broken down record at this point.

“I thank the Washington Post for the correction,” he said, according to the pro-Trump tabloid, the New York Post.

“You will notice that establishment media errors, omissions, mistakes, and outright lies always slant one way—against me and against Republicans,” Trump continued.

“Meanwhile, stories that hurt Democrats or undermine their narratives are buried, ignored, or delayed until they can do the least harm—for example, after an election is over. Look no further than the negative coverage of the vaccine that preceded the election and the overdue celebration of the vaccine once the election had concluded,” he continued. “A strong democracy requires a fair and honest press. This latest media travesty underscores that legacy media outlets should be regarded as political entities—not journalistic enterprises.”

The Washington Post’s full correction:

“In a story January 9, 2021, about a phone call between then-President Donald Trump and a lead Georgia elections investigator, The Associated Press, based on information provided by a source, erroneously reported that Trump pressed the investigator to “find the fraud” and said it would make the investigator a national hero,” the correction reads. ‘A recording of the call made public two months later revealed that Trump did not say either and instead said that if the investigator looked into Fulton County the investigator would “find things that are gonna be unbelievable.” Trump also told the investigator: “When the right answer comes out, you’ll be praised.”’

Yeah, and that’s still damning as hell.
