Dr. Oz Tries To Backpedal On His Previous Comment That “Only” 2–3 Percent Of Kids Would Die If We Reopen Schools, Ends Up Making It Worse

Dr. Mehmet Oz received a massive backlash over his appearance on Sean Hannity’s Fox News program Tuesday night when he said some people might consider a “tradeoff” in the form of a two-to-three percent mortality rate in exchange for reopening American schools. With the U.S. economy on life support, Oz joined Republicans and conservatives who appear to want people to die from the COVID-19 pandemic to save Wall Street and whatnot.

First, they were talking about senior citizens dying, then just like that, it seemed little kids are good to go, too.

Dr. Oz — who took the “do no harm” Hippocratic Oath — told Hannity that he agreed with the idea of getting children back in school, and called it an “appetizing opportunity” to “get our mojo back.” Honestly, Oz’s license should have been yanked previously, but his statement on Hannity’s show should cement that.

Dr. Oz must know his career is in jeopardy because he issued the worst apology ever.

“I’ve realized my comments on risks around opening schools have confused and upset people, which was never my intention,” he said in a video he tweeted out. “I misspoke.”

Watch:

There’s so much wrong with Dr. Oz’s non-apology that it’s difficult to unpack. The guy used a promotional background in the video, and that’s rather disturbing. Also, no one is “confused.” Everyone that saw the show, heard the words come out of his mouth. He did get the “upset” part right, though. People, or at least those with a conscience, were appalled to hear a doctor casually talking to the Fox News host about sending “2-3 percent” of children to die.

And yeah, these words are upsetting: “Any life is a life lost, but to get every child back into a school… that might be a tradeoff some folks would consider.”

The gibberish in that video doesn’t even resemble an apology, and this man is a doctor with a huge audience. Can conservatives please stop discussing sending our country’s most vulnerable to die? It’s depressing as fuck.
