Heartbreaking news related to the family of Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz spread like wildfire recently, after multiple reports confirmed that emergency services were called to the GOP lawmaker’s Houston home over reports of a 14-year-old girl with self-inflicted knife wounds to her arms. It was assumed by multiple reports and outlets that the injured individual was Cruz’s eldest, 14-year-old daughter Caroline.

The Daily Mail reports “Senator Ted Cruz’s 14-year-old daughter has been hospitalized with self-inflicted knife wounds.”

In the wake of reports, representatives for Senator Ted Cruz, who shares two daughters with his wife Heidi — 14-year-old Caroline and 11-year-old Catherine — released a statement:

This is a family matter, and thankfully their daughter is OK. There were no serious injuries. The family requests that the media respect their daughter’s privacy at this time.”

Reports on the matter began to swirl after emergency service vehicles were spotted outside the Texas senator’s Houston home, parked just off to the side of his festively decorated lawn. The Daily Mail indicated that the GOP lawmaker was not home at the time of the incident and was instead in Washington, D.C. for work.

Cruz’s daughter Caroline reportedly recently came out as bisexual on her TikTok account and has notably in the past disagreed with her father’s politics and policies in public video clips posted to the social media app. Caroline’s TikTok account has since been made private.

According to reporting, Houston Police received the call to the Cruz family residence shortly before 8 pm on Tuesday night.
