According to a recent report from Business Insider, Jennifer and James Crumbley had a probable-cause in-court hearing on Tuesday of this week, during which James mouthed the words “I love you” to his wife, Jennifer.

Jennifer and James Crumbley are the parents of Ethan Crumbley, the suspected shooter in the recent tragedy at Michigan’s Oxford High School, where Ethan gunned down 4 of his fellow students and injured an additional 7. In addition to the myriad of charges against their son for opening fire in his high school, Jennifer and James are also currently charged with involuntary manslaughter in connection to their son’s heinous crime, due to their inaction and encouragement of Ethan’s obsessive and dangerous behavior surrounding guns and violence.

James, Jennifer, and Ethan are all currently being held at the Oakland County Jail, but remain completely separated and cut off from each other.

During the hearing, the couple sat with their attorneys between them, separating them from each other. However, video footage of the conference review by Business Insider appears to show Ethan’s father mouthing what appeared to be the words “I love you” to his wife when their attorneys approached the bench for a private discussion with the judge.

James and Jennifer Crumbley were ultimately arrested in the basement of a commercial warehouse in Detroit, where they were reportedly hiding out after going on the “run” following the announcement of the charges against them. The pair has been charged with 4 counts of involuntary manslaughter after being accused of refusing to take the necessary steps to prevent the Oxford High School shooting. Oakland County’s prosecutor Karen McDonald has confirmed that James and Jennifer were responsible for gifting their son Ethan with the firearm that he went on to allegedly use in the fatal, tragic shooting.

In addition, McDonald claims Ethan’s mother ignored numerous calls from and emails from her son’s school, as school officials reported that Ethan had been looking up ammunition during class — something Jennifer reportedly responded to her son by saying, “LOL. I’m not mad at you… You have to learn not to get caught.”

Prosecutors have also alleged that, upon learning of an active shooter at Oxford High School, Jennifer texted her son Ethan and said, “Don’t do it.”

Judge Julie Nicholson, per the request of both the prosecution and the defense, postponed the Crumbleys’ probable-cause hearing to February 8. At that time, it is expected that the hearing will officially determine if the Crumbleys will face a trial for their charges.

They are currently being held on half a million bonds each.
