Even Though Trump Has Said Children Are “Almost Immune,” His Son Barron Has Reportedly Tested Positive For COVID-19

Whose fault is this?

According to a statement released Wednesday by first lady Melania Trump, Donald Trump’s youngest son, Barron, has tested positive for the coronavirus. Melania Trump said that although Barron initially tested negative after both of his parents tested positive for the disease, he later tested positive. Mrs. Trump said he showed no symptoms of COVID-19.

Melania writes:

Naturally my mind went immediately to our son. To our great relief he tested negative, but again, as so many parents have thought over the past several months, I couldn’t help but think “what about tomorrow or the next day?”. My fear came true when he was tested again and it came up positive. Luckily he is a strong teenager and exhibited no symptoms. In one way I was glad the three of us went through this at the same time so we could take care of one another and spend time together. He has since tested negative.

We certainly have nothing but empathy for Barron, but his parents are another story. Both Melania and the president were present at the Rose Garden super-spreader event and did not wear protective face masks or practice social distancing. And Barron’s results are exactly why we follow the simple guidelines — to keep others safe.

“This thing is going away, it will go away like things go away. My view is that schools should be open,” Trump said on Fox and ‘Friends’ Aug. 5th. “If you look at children, children are almost, I would almost say definitely, but almost immune from this disease. So few. Hard to believe. I don’t know how you feel about it but they have much stronger immune systems than we do somehow for this. They don’t have a problem.”

And if the president can’t protect himself or his family from the deadly disease, then he certainly can’t protect the rest of us. Meanwhile, Trump has repeatedly mocked Democratic nominee Joe Biden for wearing a mask and practicing social distancing. Biden has tested negative, by the way.

I’m sincerely hoping that Barron doesn’t end up with long-term health effects like so many others. This is a deadly disease that should be taken seriously, and it should never be mocked, especially by the president of the United States. Interestingly, Donald Trump hasn’t said a word about this as he continues to hold super-spreader rallies. It would be nice to have a president again. It would have been nice for Barron if he had a father.
