Former National Security Advisor Slammed Bolton To His Face For Not Testifying

She really nailed him.

Former National Security Advisor and United Nations Ambassador Susan Rice called out John Bolton to his face this week for not testifying during impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump.

Bolton, who served as Trump’s national security advisor, appeared on stage with Rice at Vanderbilt University and was confronted over his refusal to testify even though he has direct knowledge of Trump’s Ukraine extortion scheme.

In fact, the scheme was so corrupt that Bolton once compared it to a “drug deal.”

Yet, he wouldn’t testify. And his refusal to do his duty to the country drew a sharp rebuke from Rice, who served during the Obama administration.

“I thought a lot about if I had been in that position how would I have approached it, and I’ll be honest,” she began. “It’s inconceivable to me that if I had firsthand knowledge of gross abuse of presidential power that I would withhold my testimony from a constitutional accountability process.”

“I can’t imagine withholding my testimony with or without a subpoena,” Rice continued. “I would feel like I was shamefully violating the oath that I took to defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic.”

“I said I would testify if subpoenaed,” Bolton responded. “My position is exactly the same as Joe Biden.”

Bolton did offer to testify in the Senate if subpoenaed, but that’s a cop-out considering he knew full well that Senate Republicans were prepared to bar witness testimony during the trial.

Rice then made an excellent point:

“Except Joe Biden didn’t have firsthand knowledge about what transpired with Ukraine,” she said.

Indeed, Vice President Joe Biden was not privy to Trump’s scheme. His only involvement was as a victim of Trump’s demand that Ukraine open a sham investigation against him to hurt him politically.

Rice threw a flourish on her shaming of Bolton by noting that she voluntarily testified during House investigations of the Benghazi attack.

“When I was the sitting national security advisor in 2016, I was called to testify in front of the House select committee about Benghazi,” she explained. “The last thing I wanted to do was take time away from my duty as national security advisor. But I did so voluntarily, I wasn’t subpoenaed.”

If Bolton truly cared about this country he would have testified instead of making everyone wait for his book to come out. His refusal to do so will be a stain on his already tainted legacy.
