What a jerk.

Stephanie Grisham, speaking on CNN’s New Day, said that former President Donald Trump was “gleefully” watching the mob of his supporters storm the building from the White House dining” room on Jan. 6 last year, hitting rewind and saying: “Look at all those people fighting for me.” Grisham didn’t open up too much about what she revealed to the House Select Committee on Wednesday. Still, she did describe Trump as being fascinated at the visual of his supporters storming the Capitol.

As for the Jan. 6 committee, she said, “I think that, regardless if they can bring charges against the former president, I think that the select committee is going to show, you know, irrefutable proof he [Donald Trump] was behind this, it was these people believing in everything he said.”

“So, perhaps there won’t be criminal charges,” Grisham continued. “But morally, I think this country is going to see what went wrong, and then we just all have to come together and never, ever, ever let it happen again.”

“Look, one of the crucial questions about the insurrection is what happened during the 187 minutes before Donald Trump decided to ask the people who were behind us here to leave the Capitol,” host John Berman said. “Do you know specifically who pleaded with Trump to stop the violence during the attack? Ivanka, [House Minority Leader] Kevin McCarthy. Who else?”

“I don’t know specifically,” Grisham explained. “I know Mrs. Trump did not, so there’s that. You know, all I know about that day is he was in the dining room, gleefully watching on his TV as he often did, ‘look at all of the people fighting for me,’ hitting rewind, watching it again. That’s what I know.”

Watch:

Seven hundred thirty-eight individuals have been charged so far for their alleged crimes on Jan. 6, exactly one year ago today. Over 140 police officers were injured while protecting the Capitol and our elected officials inside the building. And yes, the pro-Trump mob was armed. It’s difficult to determine if this country can heal from the assault on our democracy when a good percentage on the other side of the aisle is still in denial about what took place.
