Just when you thought gun violence in the United States couldn’t possibly get any worse…

A breaking new report from the New York Post has revealed that the grand-niece of George Floyd — the 46-year-old black man who was murdered in the streets of Minneapolis after former, now-convicted police officer Derek Chauvin kneeled on his neck until he died — was shot while in her bed asleep in her Houston, Texas, home after a gunman opened fire on the home, according to Houston police. Arriana is 4-years-old.

ABC 13 Houston reports that Arianna is injured but in stable condition following emergency surgery to treat the effects of the gunshot wounds. The 4-year-old reportedly suffered a punctured lung and liver from the bullet, as well as three broken ribs. Arianna’s family identified her as the niece of the late George Floyd.

In the apartment with Arianna during the violent attack were one other child and four adults. Police report that the gunman opened fire on the building around 3 am.

Houston police released a statement revealing that they’re currently unaware whether the shooting was carried out by one individual or multiple shooters. Thus far, they have no suspects in the attack, nor are they aware of a motive for the violent shooting.

The local report notes that Arianna was asleep in her bed inside the apartment when the gunman opened fire on the building and shot the 4-year-old child. Her family has said they often took Arianna along to marches and rallies to demand justice for her slain uncle, George Floyd.

Floyd’s murder, former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was recently found guilty for the killing of George after kneeling on the man’s neck for  9 minutes and 29 seconds back in May 2020. Chauvin was sentenced to more than 20 years in prison for his crimes.
