Donald Trump has made us a laughingstock on the world stage and isolated us from our allies while leaving all norms and diplomacy at the door. Germany’s president kicked off the annual Munich Security Conference on Friday by taking a firm aim at Trump’s “America First” foreign policy approach. As we’ve all seen with Donnie, America First means America Alone.
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier used his opening remarks to warn that the U.S. would put its own interests first at the expense of its allies, according to CNBC.
“Our closest ally, the United States of America, under the current administration, rejects the very concept of the international community,” he said. “‘Great again’ but at the expense of neighbors and partners,” Steinmeier added, referring to Trump’s “Make America Great Again” campaign slogan (that he borrowed from Ronald Reagan).
“Thinking and acting this way hurts us all,” he said.

The attendees listening to Steinmeier’s speech included Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Secretary of Defense Mark Esper, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Sen. Lindsey Graham, and Rep. Adam Schiff. Other representatives attended, too, as the outlet notes, making it the largest U.S. delegation to attend the forum. Trump’s MAGA-team had to just sit there and listen as Germany’s president ripped into Trump’s foreign policy.
Steinmeier then hit Russia and China.
“In this scenario, the security of one is the insecurity of others,” he said, then added that European leaders need to create a unified policy to deal with increasing threats posed by Russia and China.
Steinmeier went on to note the importance of NATO, the world’s most powerful military alliance, which Trump has frequently criticized. There’s nothing that Vladimir Putin would like more than to see NATO weakened since it has deterred Soviet and Russian aggression for 70 years now.
The former reality show star has no idea what he’s doing. Last December when the president attended the NATO summit in London, world leaders were caught on camera mocking Trump. If Trump does know what he’s doing, that’s an even more frightening thought as he continues to lower our status on the world stage. That certainly doesn’t sound like a guy who loves this country, but hey, he hugged a flag once.
