The Republican party is being mocked after making an embarrassing spelling mistake in a tweet on its official Twitter account, complaining about school closures’ impacts on children’s education. Have you ever had someone on social media say, “Your stupid” while not knowing the difference between your and you’re? The GOP has possibly made that error in the past, too. Just a hunch. Tweeting about education while misspelling devastating in all-caps seems on-point for Republicans these days.
“Keeping schools closed has DEVESTATING effects on the mental health, social and economic situation and academic achievement of America’s children,” the now-deleted tweet from the GOP’s official account read, according to a report at the Huffington Post. “The science is in – schools can safely re-open!”
Twitter users pounced, including Dan Rather.
Tweeting without spell check can be devestating.

The GOP spelled “devastating” as “DEVESTATING” while talking about school closures causing problems with academic achievement.
The GOP is the stupid party. There’s no nicer way to say it. They just don’t value thought.https://t.co/WqHd2gSiqn

You have to really appreciate the GOP misspelling “devastating” in a post about education. https://t.co/f1XdK5zRYo

DEVASTATING not devestating pumpkin. Time to go back to school yourself. Wear a mask. pic.twitter.com/2h13MtgpqM

Looks like the GOP needs to go back to school. It’s “devastating,” not “devestating.” pic.twitter.com/TTQD5ZxJJ2

Last week, the CDC released new guidelines that should make it easier for schools to reopen safely, including advice that students can now sit 3 feet apart in classrooms. The difference here is that the Biden administration wants schools to reopen safely, whereas the former administration just wanted them open. Republicans really have become a death-cult.
