GOPers Are Reportedly Flat Out Ignoring Trump’s Demands, Continue To Use His Name To Make Money

He's not going to like this.

Politico reported on Saturday that former President Donald Trump sent out legal warnings to the three biggest fundraising groups for the Republican Party, ordering them to stop using his name and likeness on emails and merchandise. Trump continues to be angry with the Republicans that voted to impeach him, so the former president sent cease-and-desist letters Friday to the RNC, NRC, and NRSC — but the outlet is now reporting that Trump’s demands are being ignored.

“We reported Saturday that Trump’s lawyers sent a cease-and-desist letter to the RNC, NRSC, and NRCC telling them to stop using his name to fundraise or sell merchandise,” Politico’s Playbook reports. “But they don’t seem to be taking the warnings seriously. The NRSC advertised a T-shirt for “Trump Supporters ONLY!” with his face and the words “Miss Me yet?” on Facebook. The landing page for the donation was still active as of Sunday night. As Alex Isenstadt noted, the RNC doesn’t seem to be backing off, either. Trump was referenced in fundraising emails Saturday and Sunday, even though the letter was delivered to the committee lawyers Friday. The NRSC declined to comment, and the RNC did not get back to us.”

Since Republicans insist on propping up Trump as the head of the GOP, it’s odd that the former president doesn’t want his name or likeness used to raise donations. A Trump adviser said that the fundraising entities needed the former president’s approval to use his name and likeness. Maybe the three fundraising groups are too busy focusing on Dr. Seuss’s estate after it decided to discontinue publishing six of the famed author’s books due to offensive imagery. That does seem to be what Republicans are laser-focused on lately.

At any rate, when you’re the head of a party, fundraising is kind of a big deal — unless you’re Donald J. Trump, that is. Trump is only out for himself, and yet, Republicans still prop him up as their messiah even if it’s to their party’s detriment. And even if it’s to the country’s detriment. Interestingly, the GOP chose the twice-impeached, insurrectionist-inciting, former president to be the head of its party.

Update:

Washington Post reporter Josh Dawsey tweeted that Trump told Republican National Committe chair, Ronna McDaniel, over the weekend that he “approves of the RNC’s current use of his name in fundraising and other materials,” and I just don’t know what to make of that considering that they received a cease and desist letter from the former president.
