Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is good at pissing Americans off, probably because he has hundreds of bills that are sitting in his ‘legislative graveyard’ with no intention of even giving them a glance. McConnell is more focused on advancing conservative judges into lifetime positions. People are dying, including in the U.S., and the Dow is already down over 2,000 points today with folks in this country in panic-mode over the potentially fatal coronavirus.
Trump proposed ending payroll taxes through the end of the year — which happens to be until after the election — but the cut applies only to those who get paychecks, so it would provide no relief to those who find work in the “gig economy” and little relief to people who are laid off as a result of an economic downturn. And layoffs look likely in the very near future. Democrats responded with a stimulus plan of their own that is more expansive and includes paid sick leave, broadened unemployment insurance, free coronavirus testing, and treatment for those who cannot afford medical help, but McConnell is dismissing it on Twitter.
Unfortunately, Speaker Pelosi’s first draft from late last night was off-base. It does not focus immediate relief on affected Americans. It proposes new bureaucracy that would only delay assistance. It wanders into policy areas that are not related to the pressing issues at hand.

Free testing, paid emergency med leave, extended UE ins for ppl that will lose their jobs, food assistance, and help for health care workers helps affected Americans.
It does NOT help big biz, which is what you’re mad about. You’re so transparent.

The new Dem plan rests on four principles:
* Anyone who needs a test must get it
* Aid must be targeted to most vulnerable
* We need a much stronger safety net
* Our biggest problem is the virus is already here and spreadingRs reject these, apparently.

The bill he calls “off base” contains:
– free testing for everyone
– paid emergency medical leave
– extended unemployment insurance for those who will lose their jobs
– food assistance
– help for health care workersIt does lack $ for big business, hotel magnates & shale oil. https://t.co/SRzotVFiIo

It would be nice if Republicans could think about the most vulnerable Americans for a fucking minute amid a worldwide pandemic, but I suppose that’s too much to ask.
