Your pants are on fire, Jim.

The House committee investigating the January 6 attack on the Capitol revealed this week that Ohio Republican Rep. Jim Jordan is among the lawmakers who texted with former chief of staff Mark Meadows on the day of the insurrection. Jordan forwarded an analysis by another attorney — former Pentagon Inspector General Joseph Schmitz. The attorney’s legal theory suggested that then-Vice President Mike Pence could prevent the certification of Electoral College votes from the 2020 election.

It’s an entirely bonkers theory. If, and stay with me for a second, Vice President Kamala Harris in 2024 just tossed out electoral votes that didn’t go for Biden by saying that she feels they are unconstitutional, conservatives would rightfully lose their minds. That’s what Jordan’s pal suggested in his extremely faulty analysis.

It doesn’t work this way:

“On January 6, 2021, Vice President Mike Pence, as President of the Senate, should call out all the electoral votes that he believes are unconstitutional as no electoral votes at all — in accordance with guidance from founding father Alexander Hamilton and judicial precedence,” the text reads in part.

Jordan has struggled to answer whether he had spoken to former President Donald Trump on the day of the riots.

Watch:

That’s not something a person forgets. In October, he said he did not speak to Trump during the attack even though he had previously said that he did. Jordan has been changing his story since July. In July, Jordan told Fox News’s Bret Baier that he and Trump had spoken but changed the subject quickly when asked what they had discussed. Also, in July, Jordan claimed that he’s been “clear about” when he spoke with Trump. Jordan told Politico in August that he had “definitely” spoken to the former president more than once that day, but he couldn’t remember when and added that one of those calls was from a safe room during the attack.

In late October, CNN created a clip showing how many times Jordan has not been “clear about” when he spoke with Trump on January 6.

I think Jim has some explaining to do.
