Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the quiet part out loud on Wednesday when he said, “There will be a smooth transition to a second Trump administration” even though President-elect Joe Biden is the clear winner of the presidential race, securing both the popular vote and the electoral vote. That was just straight-up fascist talk, and even though some journalists speculated that Pompeo might have been joking, I don’t think so because, put quite simply, it’s not fucking funny.
And Pompeo said that on the same day that a flurry of high-level departures at the Pentagon on Tuesday took place, and that set off alarms on Capitol Hill that the White House was installing Trump loyalists to carry out the president’s wishes just ahead of when the transition is supposed to take place in January. So, again, Pompeo isn’t a funny guy — and there’s speculation all over social media that our raging narcissistic lame-duck president might be attempting a coup.
And while Trump campaigned against Biden, saying he has spent years in office, that’s actually quite reassuring for the rest of us. After all, the United States somehow elected Donald Trump, who had zero political experience, which didn’t work out very well. We needed a soothing voice to assure Americans that everything will be OK, considering that Trump has refused to vow that there will be a peaceful transition of power.

America direly needs to heal, and with a madman at the helm until January, we all needed to hear Biden’s response. Pompeo’s ridiculous claims about a “smooth transition to second Trump administration” only displays the arrogance and attempted authoritarianism of this godawful administration. And while Americans are suffering through several national crises, the Trump administration has been the opposite of proactive — and yet, Trump thinks he deserves four more years in the White House. While Biden has already set up a coronavirus task force, many in the Trump administration have contracted COVID-19. So, move over Donald Trump — the grown-ups are here.
