Former National Security Adviser John Bolton spent enough time with Donald Trump to realize that he made a mistake voting for him in 2016, though he still doesn’t have the courage to vote for Joe Biden.
Let’s be honest, Bolton is not a popular guy. But when even he recognizes that Trump is a danger to our nation and democracy, it’s worth taking notice.
After all, Bolton is a stalwart conservative extremist who previously sang Trump’s praises.
But even he is jumping ship, and it’s all because of what he observed during his stint at the White House.

“In 2016 I voted for Trump over Hillary Clinton,” Bolton said during an interview. “Now, having seen this president up close, I cannot do this again. My concern is for the country, and he does not represent the Republican cause that I want to back.”
Bolton even went on to explain just how incompetent Trump has been.
“The president does not have a philosophical grounding or strategy,” Bolton continued. “He does not know the difference between the national interest of the U.S., and the interests of Donald Trump. There is confusion over the national interest and his personal interest, which is very dangerous for the country.”
Indeed, Trump is selfishly and illegally using the office to enrich himself and his family. Every decision he makes ultimately comes down to how will he personally benefit, and that’s bad.
Bolton also confirmed Trump is ignorant.
“He came in with very little personal knowledge of how government worked, and he had no interest in learning,” he said. “There has been no president in the past century who has followed this approach. I was concerned after 17 months in the administration that he did not have the requisite competence to be president, and the American people need to know about that.”
And so, just like many other Republicans, Bolton is abandoning Trump but unfortunately does not plan to vote for Biden in November.
John Bolton: “What I thought in 2016 was, we at least have to try it out. And so I voted for Trump. Having experienced 17 months of working with him, I can’t in good conscience do that again, and that’s why I’m not gonna vote for him, and I’m not gonna vote for Biden.” pic.twitter.com/cDjiPxmrG9

It’s just another one of his failures to grow a spine when it counts the most.
