According to a jolting new report from Newsweek, karma herself sunk her teeth into a wildlife trophy hunter — who was well known for taking to social media to brag about all the animals he killed — when the hunter was reportedly found shot to death in South Africa recently.

A new report from the Daily Mail revealed that wildlife trophy hunter Riaan Naude was found dead from apparent gunshot wounds beside his vehicle in the South African province of Limpopo, about 3 miles from Mokopane on June 8th.

South African Police Service spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mamphaswa Seabi explained, “The man was lying with his face up and there was blood on his head and face.”

“Police found two hunting rifles, ammunition, clothes, water, whiskey, and pajamas in the deceased’s [pick up truck]. It looks like he was on his way to go hunting.”

“The motive for the attack and the subsequent murder is unknown at this stage,” Seabi said.

The environmentalist Twitter page Xpose Trophy Killing took to social media on the heels of the news and posted a photo of Naude, along with a link to the independent Afrikaans-language media house that originally broke the story of the hunter’s shooting death, Maroela Media.

The Protect All Wildlife shared the news of the shooting as well as dubbed Naude’s death as the “hunter was hunted.” The blog noted that Naude was a professional hunter who was regularly criticized by international animal rights organizations due to the sheer volume of wild animals he personally killed.

The Maroela Media reports that the Heritage Protection Group, a not-for-profit against rhino poaching, has claimed that Naude stopped his vehicle on the side of the road around 5km (3.1 miles) from Mokopane in the Limpopo province of South Africa because it was overheating.

The organization claimed, “According to eyewitnesses, a white [pickup truck] stopped next to the man and shot him in cold blood at a short distance, after which the two suspects got out and presumably just look a pistol.”

“The suspects then jumped into the vehicle and raced in the direction of Marken.”

Preliminary investigations revealed that a local cattle hearder heard a gunshot and then saw a pickup truck speeding away from the scene around the time of Naude’s death.
