Former White House counselor Kellyanne Conway is back, this time to join the U.S. Senate campaign of a first-time businessman candidate that she compared to Donald Trump, Politico reports. Conway has been named senior adviser by Bernie Moreno, a Cleveland luxury car dealer turned blockchain executive who is vowing to “protect Trump’s victories” even though he once referred to the former president as a “lunatic” and a “maniac.” That seems on-brand for Conway considering that she, too, attacked Trump’s character before he was elected.

Conway branded Moreno in a statement as “not a politician,” and said, “He’s a conservative, a political outsider, and a successful businessman just like President Donald J. Trump. He has lived the American Dream and wishes to protect it for future generations.” Oh, well that sounds familiar. In 2016, Americans elected a former reality show star with zero political experience to hold the highest seat in the land, and that didn’t work out too well.

According to Moreno’s campaign website, he wants to “stop socialism, attacks on our liberty, cancel culture, and corruption” and “protect Donald J. Trump’s victories.”

Interestingly, these pro-Trump politicians seem to be ignoring the fact that the twice-impeached former president was defeated by Joe Biden in both the electoral and popular vote. Trump was the least popular president in U.S. history and they just can’t let go of him. And according to Open Secrets, the 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump outraised their primary challengers — amid scathing attacks from the former president and his allies. So, maybe — and just hear me out — continuing to support a highly unpopular guy isn’t the way to go here.

America fired Donald J. Trump, but conservatives keep mimicking him to stay relevant. I don’t think that’s a winning strategy. At any rate, we wish her luck with her race to the bottom.
