Since Florida Governor Ron DeSantis continues to refuse to shut down his state in response to rising coronavirus cases, attorney Daniel Uhlfelder has filed a lawsuit and immediately moved to depose him.

During a press conference on Tuesday, the Trump-loving governor said that he would only give such an order if Trump’s White House told him to do so, shifting responsibility out of his hands, unlike other governors who have used their executive powers to shut down their own states until this crisis passes.

“I’m in contact with them, and, basically, I’ve said, ‘Are you guys recommending this?’” DeSantis said. “The task force has not recommended that to me. Obviously, if they do, that is something that would carry a lot of weight with me.”

Over 4,000 Americans have died from the coronavirus and Florida has an aging population that is particularly vulnerable to contracting it and dying from it. Despite the highly contagious and deadly nature of the virus, beaches remained open in Florida and so did various theme parks.

Many businesses continue to be in operation even though they are not essential, and the way DeSantis deals with the virus could determine how much more the virus spreads and how much longer the pandemic will last.

People are dying, and that’s why Uhlfelder filed a lawsuit against DeSantis and filed a notice of deposition late last night.

The notice commands DeSantis to appear before Uhlfelder later this month and he can only be excused from it by the law firm or the courts.

You can read the full notice via Twitter:

The public deserves to know why DeSantis is continuing to put lives at risk. He wanted this job and the power that comes with it. It’s his responsibility to use it to keep Americans safe. By leaving it up to the White House, DeSantis appears to be admitting that his actions are controlled by Trump, who has businesses in the state. This is a national emergency. It’s a public health crisis the likes of which we have never seen in most of our lifetimes. DeSantis has made it clear that he’s a failed governor. Not only should he be taken to court, but voters should also fire him as soon as possible.
