Lindsey Graham Claims That If Biden “Ends Up Winning” Then It Would Be Good If Trump Attended Joe’s Inauguration, But Followed That Up With “I Hope That Biden Will Come To His”

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), one of Donald Trump’s staunchest allies, said that it would be “good for the country” for Trump to attend President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration on Jan. 20 “if Biden winds up winning.” But of course, Biden has secured the electoral and popular vote, so he has already defeated Donald Trump. The question is whether Trump’s narcissistic mind would allow him to attend Biden’s inauguration. It’s doubtful since Trump hasn’t even accepted his loss to the former vice-president.

“If Biden winds up winning, yeah, I think so,” Graham said when asked about whether Trump should attend Biden’s swearing-in ceremony. “I just think it’s good for the country. It’d be good for him.”

“I hope that Biden will come to his,” he added with a small chuckle, according to The Hill.

According to the news outlet, Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) said during an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday that he would like to see Trump at Biden’s inauguration.

“I hope the president is there on inaugural day,” he said, even though the spineless Republican declined to explicitly call Biden the president-elect.

Well, that’s nice, and everything, but the outgoing president has in the past two weeks, floated the idea of doing a 2024-related event during Biden’s inauguration week and possibly on Inauguration Day if his attempted coup fails.

Trump would be one of the rare few to refuse to attend his successor’s inauguration if he declines to do so.

John Adams was still butthurt over the outcome of the election of 1800, so he did not remain in Washington to witness the inauguration of Thomas Jefferson, his successor. In 1829, John Quincy Adams decided to leave town rather than attend Andrew Jackson’s accession to the White House. Despite Gen. Ulysses S. Grant’s electoral victory in 1868, Andrew Johnson obstinately refused to attend the inauguration.

That’s Trump’s choice, though. Former President Barack Obama, though, attended Trump’s inauguration. And that was a magnanimous gesture on his part since Trump tried to delegitimize his presidency for years by falsely claiming that our country’s first Black president was born in Kenya — and wasn’t an American citizen.

That wasn’t very brave of Lindsey since he’s still licking Trump’s boots by saying Trump should attend Biden’s inauguration “if” the former vice president won. Biden did win, and the race wasn’t even close.
