There’s a whole lot of weirdness happening with Sen. Lindsey Graham (SC-R) lately. Well, more than usual anyway. For one, the state’s Senate debate scheduled for Friday night between Graham and his Democratic challenger Jamie Harrison has changed formats after Graham rejected Harrison’s request to take another COVID-19 test amid the raging pandemic. And Graham’s party seems to be a hotbed for the coronavirus, so he should be tested since he’s close pals with the super-spreader president.

So, a forum took place instead of the scheduled debate, and it didn’t go down very well for Graham, who is being challenged by a Black candidate.

Things took a bizarre turn during the candidate forum with the South Carolina Senate race contenders when Lindsey Graham was asked, “How will you address civil unrest in South Carolina?”

Graham responded by saying that young Black people would be safe in South Carolina, “as long as they’re conservative.”

“I am asking every African-American out there, look at my record,” Graham said, referring to how he supported historically Black colleges and universities. “I care about everybody, if you are a young African-American, an immigrant, you can go anywhere in this state, you just need to be conservative, not liberal.”

Watch:

That didn’t answer the question, but it does raise questions. Like, why aren’t all Black Americans safe in South Carolina? Graham is just saying the quiet part out loud, obviously.

Harrison answered the question much differently, saying, “Just as slavery was ended, we can end the epidemic of police brutality in this country and root out the systemic racism that oppresses communities of color across South Carolina and our entire country.”

Harrison went on to say that he supports a register for law enforcement, having a national standard for the use of force, and demilitarizing the police. And he did not back defunding the police, according to Newsweek.

“There are some bad apples in the system that need to be rooted out. We need to bring some accountability to the system,” he said.

Jinkies, you guys, who should South Carolina voters support — the guy that thinks Democratic Black residents should be afraid in their state, or the guy who will represent all of his constituents? Such a dilemma.
