McConnell Gathering GOP Senators For “Popsicles And Prosecco By The Pool” To Figure Out How To Save Their A*ses In Elections After They All Voted For Trump Acquittal

Because that's not weird at all.

Ever since Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell pulled off his sham impeachment trial and, with the help of his fellow GOP Senators, acquitted Donald Trump of his charges, he’s been publicly claiming that he’s not worried about their reelection votes as a whole as a result of their acquittal votes.

“In the end it’s not likely to have much of an impact on any of the races, the presidential or the Senate races,” McConnell recently suggested.

However, it seems to be an entirely different story behind closed doors.

According to a new report from the Washington Post, Mitch is far more worried about the safety of GOP Senate seats than he’s letting on to the public.

The report indicates that McConnell is in the throes of putting together a weekend retreat for his fellow GOP Senators as well as donors at the Breakers Resort in Palm Beach, Florida where they will enjoy “popsicles and prosecco by the pool” while they figure out how impeachment is going to affect their likelihood of reelection and how to save their behinds from being voted out for acquitting a guilty president.

Other than GOP Senator Mitt Romney, who changed his mind and voted in favor of conviction at the last minute, every single Republican Senator voted to acquit the president — including those who are vulnerable in their reelection this year.

Naturally, Democrats in the Senate have no intention of letting the voters forget this.

“Armed with polling showing voters largely supported an expanded trial, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is trying to raise money for key challengers to Republican incumbents,” WaPo reporter Paul Kane wrote. “‘We know you’re angry,’ the DSCC began its Friday missive.”

“Democrats see an opening after McConnell short-circuited the trial without witnesses. Geoff Garin, a Democratic pollster, surveyed six battleground states and found strong support for witnesses and documents, similar to other national polls,” Kane went on. “Throughout the trial, DSCC strategists pounded that message into home-state media for Collins, Gardner and Sens. Martha McSally (R-Ariz.) and Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), generating plenty of bad headlines for their top four targets.”

GOP challengers are bound and determined to make sure that this sham vote mars the reputation of their opponents for the rest of eternity, as it should.

And I really don’t think that “Prosecco and popsicles by the pool” is going to change that.
