While current First Lady Melania Trump stands on the sidelines producing tone-deaf and useless videos during this coronavirus pandemic, former First Ladies Laura Bush and Michelle Obama delivered a hopeful message to the American people and honored those on the front line who are fighting to protect our health.

The coronavirus has stranded millions of Americans at home while our country remains rudderless at the very top of our leadership. The Trumps have made this pandemic about themselves, their power, and their profit. They’ve made it clear that they don’t know what to say to the American people struggling at this time. Millions have lost their jobs and nearly 40,000 are dead. It’s a scary time, yet the Trumps offer no honesty or empathy at a time we need it most.

That’s why it was refreshing to see Mrs. Obama and Mrs. Bush speak during the One World Together At Home event that was broadcast on Saturday night on ABC, CBS, and NBC.

“Michelle and I are thrilled to join you tonight in your homes for this special program,” Laura Bush said to begin the joint message, according to CNN.

“We’ve had the profound privilege of getting to know you and your families. Your hopes and your struggles, and your triumphs,” Obama chimed in.

“The spirit and courage of the American people is most evident in times of crisis, and during this period of physical separation, we’ve never been closer. Not just in our great country, but tonight we stand with the people of the world,” Bush continued.

Both women praised the heroic efforts of healthcare workers during this trying time and thanked all essential workers for continuing to do their work to keep the nation going.

“You’re the fabric of our country and your strength will carry us through this crisis,” Bush said.

“The coming days will not be easy, but this global family of ours is strong,” Obama concluded. “We will continue to be here for one another and we will get through this crisis. Together. Thank you.”

Here’s a clip of the message via Twitter:

Michelle Obama and Laura Bush are the kinds of First Ladies America needs right now. Sadly, we are stuck with Melania until at least January 2021. Hopefully, we’ll have a First Lady who cares again.
