The real First Lady stepped up to show Melania how it's done.

Michelle Obama may no longer be in the White House with her husband former President Barack Obama, but she’s still the First Lady that America needs in a time of crisis, as President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump repeatedly fail to instill calm into a fearful nation.

Melania recently released a PSA on Twitter that didn’t go over very well considering her husband’s poor response to the coronavirus pandemic.

She didn’t exactly exude compassion and understanding for what’s going on right now, and she certainly doesn’t understand the pain many Americans and their families are going through. Over 300,000 Americans have been infected by the virus and over 10,000 have died. Melania’s words are empty and meaningless.

And that’s probably part of the reason why a real First Lady stepped up to deliver a message of hope and empathy.

“These past few weeks have been scary and difficult for many of us,” Michelle Obama wrote on Instagram. “We just don’t have a roadmap for what we’re currently experiencing—that in and of itself can bring up feelings of anxiety, loneliness, and fear. Not to mention the worry we feel about the health and safety of our parents, children, and loved ones and the financial security of so many families.”

“Whatever you’re going through right now, I want you to know you aren’t alone,” Mrs. Obama continued. “Even as we practice social distancing, this new normal is something we are figuring out together. As for me, I know when I’m feeling overwhelmed that picking up the phone and calling one of my girlfriends can work wonders. I also know staying close to my community helps me to feel connected and strong. If you’re not sure what that looks like these days, I’ve offered a few suggestions to get you started. But this is by no means an exhaustive list!”

“Add your comment below with the ways you’re showing up for your community during these tough times,” she concluded. “And don’t forget: It’s okay to take a breath, too. Be gentle with yourself. Log off when you need to, take a break if you can, and let others know when you’d like a little help.”

Melania should have waited because then she could have plagiarized Michelle Obama’s message of hope. But she never could have copied Michelle’s compassion and empathy for others, which is what our nation desperately needs right now.
