President Donald Trump has just been completely upstaged by his own Vice President, who made him look like an absolute fool earlier today.
While Trump continues to defend Russia and ignore America’s pleas for election security, VP Mike Pence sent a strong message to Vladimir Putin about protecting the United States from outside threats, firmly standing with America’s intelligence agencies.
Speaking at a Department of Homeland Security cybersecurity summit in New York, Pence used language against Russia that President Trump would never, calling Putin’s election meddling “an affront to our democracy.” Pence said:
While other nations certainly possess the capability, the fact is, Russia meddled in our 2016 elections. That is the unambiguous judgment of the intelligence community and as the president said, we accept the intelligence community’s conclusion. Russia’s goal was to sow discord and division and to weaken the American people’s faith in our democracy. And, while no actual votes were changed, any attempt to interfere in our elections is an affront to our democracy and it will not be allowed.”

While Pence is certainly dangerous and should also be nowhere close to the White House, at least he has the balls to stand up to those who are threatening our country — unlike Trump. This is truly an embarrassing moment for the president, who will have a much harder time protecting his meddling BFF now.

Pence’s comments today were critical today, as Facebook announced it has discovered potential evidence of several foreign actors trying to use the social media platform to influence November elections. America needs its president to start taking these threats to our democracy seriously and to stop trying to kiss up to countries who have tried to hurt us. Pence has just shown Trump how it’s done — hopefully, Trump was listening.
