Military Officials Just Told NY Times Al-Baghdadi’s Raid “Happened Largely In Spite Of Trump’s Actions, Not Because Of Them”

Now the truth comes out.

As we all expected, after the news leaked of the likely death of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and Trump’s immature and ominous tweet claiming “something big has just happened,” Trump announced in a press conference this morning that Baghdadi’s death was not only confirmed, but it was all thanks to him.

Tweets began swirling last night, long before Donald’s confirmation of the successful raid, reminding people that the praise is owed to the military personnel involved in the operation and went on to dig up Trump’s very own old tweets from back when Obama was president and Bin Laden was killed, in which he stated that his predecessor deserved none of the credit.

Nevertheless, Trump was armed with plenty of pats on his own back this morning and didn’t even mention the hard work put in by our servicemen and women, though he was sure to thank Russia for their help pretty much right off the bat.

But now new information is coming to light that’s in direct contradiction of Trump’s claims that he’s the one responsible for the success story. As it turns out officials involved in the raid are now telling the New York Times that it was successful in spite of Trump and his actions. Not because of him.

The CIA has actually been working very closely with Iraqi and Kurdish intelligence officials in Iraq and Syria to bring down the well-known ISIS leader since last summer. But Trump’s recent decision to betray one of our closest allies when he pulled US troops from the Syria/Turkey border ended up forcing Pentagon officials to make the risky move of pushing up the timeline for the operation.

Defense Secretary Mark T. Esper said on ABC’s This Week, “It wasn’t until Thursday and then Friday the president chose his option and gave us the green light to proceed as we did yesterday.”

When questioned on CNN’s State of the Union as to whether the operation would have still been successful once Trump’s backhanded move against the Kurds was complete and US troops were completely withdrawn at the time, Esper answered, “I’d have to consult with our commanders about that.”

While I’m certainly disgusted, I’m damn sure not surprised. This successful raid wasn’t Trump’s baby. It was an operation that’s been in the works by hundreds of hard-working US and Kurdish military personnel. And all Trump did was damn near completely fuck it up.
