Mnuchin Urges Americans To Go Out And “Explore” The Nation As Pandemic Continues To Rage On

This is why the death toll is not going to stop rising any time soon.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin appeared to tell Americans during an interview on Fox News to go out and explore the country during a pandemic, even though the CDC guidelines warn against travel at this time.

The last thing our country needs right now is for millions of antsy Americans to start traveling around because it would only perpetuate the spread of the coronavirus and further overwhelm hospitals and essential personnel.

But after Fox host Maria Bartiromo asked Mnuchin about the status of international travel, the Trump official completely ignored health guidelines and warnings by urging Americans to “explore” this country.

“Do you think that international travel will be opened up this year?” Bartiromo asked.

“Too hard to tell at this point,” Mnuchin responded. “Our priority is opening up the domestic economy. Obviously, for business people that do need to travel, there will be travel on a limited basis. But it’s a great time for people to explore America. A lot of people haven’t seen many parts of America. I wish I could get back on the road soon.”

Here’s the video:

No, it’s not a good time to travel around the country. Just like it wasn’t a good idea when Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) told Americans they can still go to the movies and to restaurants back in March when the pandemic was just starting to kick into gear.

And if millions of Americans listen to Mnuchin and start traveling around, it will only cause another deadly wave of the virus to spread across the country quickly.

Mnuchin acted irresponsibly and should publicly retract what he said and warn Americans not to travel. They should continue staying at home to protect themselves and others until this crisis passes.

This kind of recklessness is why nearly 70,000 Americans are dead, and it’s why more Americans are going to die in the weeks and months ahead.
