Just when you thought things couldn't get any worse.

Frankly, folks, this country is sick — and I don’t just mean the literal deadly pandemic that we’re still dealing with. This nation as a whole, everything good and just that it has ever stood for, is sick and dying under the reign of Donald Trump.

A place that was once known as “the melting pot” world ’round, where people from all over for a shot at a good life, is now the land of racism, white nationalism, fascism, and hate. And truly, it’s all thanks to one man.

While those things certainly existed in this country, and all around the world, before Donald Trump cheated his way to the top, it wasn’t until he seized power of this once imperfect, but decent country that those things finally had a powerful platform. And it was a matter of no time before those types of people began to crawl out of the woodwork and display themselves with pride — because if the president can do it, why can’t they?

Over the past four years, we’ve seen these people in stores, on social media, and even in the faces of our own family and friends. But throughout the course of this presidential term, there has been no greater example of this hatred and cruelty personified than that of Kyle Rittenhouse.

Rittenhouse was the 17-year-old male who traveled miles and miles away from his Illinois home, allegedly driven by his own mother, to Kenosha, Washington, armed with an AR-15-style gun, where he intentionally inserted himself into a Black Lives Matters protests — ultimately shooting three people, killing two and critically injuring another.

Since the Rittenhouse murders, several key GOP figures have hailed him as an “American hero” and even the president himself has gone so far as to seemingly defend the murders as self-defense. And frankly, it just keeps getting worse.

Conservative blogger Michelle Malkin posted a tweet recently after attending a women’s group meeting in Wisconsin where, apparently, Rittenhouse’s mother received a standing ovation.

“Standing ovation from Waukesha County GOP women for my special guests (John Pierce) and Wendy Rittenhouse, Kyle’s mom,” the tweet reads. “I was able to talk to Kyle by phone & THANK HIM for his courage!”

Folks, this is sickening. If something doesn’t change come November, this is a sickness we won’t recover from.
