**UPDATE** In his first post since returning to Twitter after a 12-hour ban, outgoing President Donald Trump published a video message addressing the Capitol riots, in which he claims that he “immediately” deployed the D.C. National Guard himself amid the unrest.

Today, we have seen the ugliest, most putrid, most vile underbelly that some people in this nation have to offer.

As the United States Congress convened on the Hill to count and certify the votes of the 2020 presidential election, something that has calmly taken places dozens and dozens of times before, a countless number of pro-Trump/anti-democracy protesters quite literally stormed this nation’s most important building bringing with them nothing but violence, hatred, and bloodshed.

We reported earlier today that the situation at the US Capitol was beginning to get out of hand, as video footage began to circulate on social media showing these protesters becoming violent with Capitol police. It was only a matter of time before we reported that Congress had been instructed to shelter in place, then evacuate, as Vice President Mike Pence was safely removed from the building and protesters broke through the Capitol doors, only to be allowed to walk through the rotunda as if nothing was amiss.

Before long, these individuals were taking disrespectful photos in the House Speakers office, and one (that we know of) individual was shot, and ultimately lost her life.

To say that this is a sad, sick day for this nation would be the understatement of the century. Yet, here we are in the evening hours of what I can only imagine will soon turn into a very long night, and all we’ve heard from the “President” of this nation was a message to his supporters saying, “We love you, you’re special, go home.”

Certainly a far cry from the fervor with which he encouraged these protests in the first place.

As the night closes in, it seems that it became clear to people in power that something had to be done. However, according to a breaking report from the New York Times, it certainly wasn’t going to be Donald Trump to do it.

The Times reports:

The Army is activating the entire District of Columbia National Guard — 1,100 troops — in response to a request from Mayor Muriel Bowser of Washington, an Army official said on Wednesday.

Defense and administration officials said it was Vice President Mike Pence, not President Trump, who approved the order to deploy the D.C. National Guard. It was unclear why the president, who incited the protesters to storm the Capitol and who is still the commander in chief, did not give the order.”

You read that correctly; Pence did it. Not Donald Trump.

While Trump was all too happy to call in the National Guard against PEACEFUL BLM protesters, he was nowhere to found when it came to wielding his power over his own.

And let this serve as a stark, sobering reminder that the people storming our nation’s Capitol — they are Donald Trump’s people.
