News has now broken that the New York Attorney General’s investigation into the Trump Organization “is no longer purely civil in nature” after AG Letitia James announced that she has officially informed the former president’s organization of the change in the investigation.
The NY AG’s office has been conducting a civil investigation into the Trump Organization since early 2019, for civil tax offenses. However, the level of the investigation has now escalated from civil to criminal.
Fabien Levy, a spokesman for the Attorney General’s office, said, “We have informed the Trump Organization that our investigation into the Organization is no longer purely civil in nature. We are now actively investigating the Trump Organization in a criminal capacity, along with the Manhattan DA.”
That means that in addition to James’ criminal investigation into the ex-president’s organization. the New York AG’s office will be working with Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance who is currently embroiled in a deep investigation into former President Donald Trump.

Vance, along with his office, has been investigating Trump for criminal tax fraud since 2018.
Thus far, no details have been released regarding what prompted the Attorney General’s office to escalate the investigation against the former president, nor why they chose to announce the escalation publicly.
