For once, Paul Ryan did the right thing.

Sometimes Donald Trump does something that is just so outrageously racist and out of hand that even the most spineless Republicans can’t sit back and watch the president ruin the country.

Earlier today, it was announced that our racist POTUS had full intention of ending birthright citizenship, a guarantee that had been in the country for 150 years. America was outraged and looked to its politicians to do something — anything — to end this madness. No one really expects much from the GOP anymore, but just hours later, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan actually made a rare show of standing up to Trump.

In an interview with Lexington, Kentucky’s WVLK radio, Ryan slammed the idea and talked about his respect for the constitution, which Trump’s plans clearly violated. He said:

Well, you obviously cannot do that. You cannot end birthright citizenship with an executive order. We didn’t like it when Obama tried changing immigration laws via executive action, and obviously as conservatives we believe in the Constitution.”

Damn. Way to put the “values” of the entire Republican Party against its own president.  Bloomberg News’ Erik Wasson and Jennifer Jacobs reported:

This was in response to an interview Trump gave to Axios in which he announced he would end birthright citizenship with an executive order even though it was protected by the 14th Amendment. Spreading lies that America was the only country where birthright citizenship exists (many nations actually do this), Trump said:

We’re the only country in the world where a person comes in and has a baby, and the baby is essentially a citizen of the United States … with all of those benefits. It’s ridiculous. It’s ridiculous. And it has to end.”

Trump made himself look like an idiot — and Ryan made it worse.
