Pope Francis Breaks His Silence On George Floyd Murder, Republicans Should Take Notice

Well done.

While the United States is facing a national crisis and civil unrest, Pope Francis weighed in on the killing of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police officers, calling it “tragic” and added that he is praying for him and “all those others who have lost their lives as a result of the sin of racism.” The Pope did what Donald Trump could not do, as the president continues to make everything about himself.

After the eighth night of protests across the United States, happening in all fifty states, Pope Francis addressed Floyd’s death during his weekly Angelus prayer at the Vatican on Wednesday, CNN reports.

“Dear brothers and sisters in the United States, I have witnessed with great concern the disturbing social unrest in your nation in these past days, following the tragic death of Mr. George Floyd,” Francis said.

“My friends, we cannot tolerate or turn a blind eye to racism and exclusion in any form and yet claim to defend the sacredness of every human life,” he said. “At the same time, we have to recognize that the violence of recent nights is self-destructive and self-defeating. Nothing is gained by violence, and so much is lost.”

Religious leaders have spoken up in recent days after Trump used a church for a photo-op just after giving an authoritarian-type speech. And the staggering image of American citizens being tear-gassed and flash-banged so the president could walk safely to his photo-op wasn’t the best campaign strategy. This president needs protection from American citizens, and that’s not going to bide well for the November presidential elections.

The Episcopal bishop of DC, Bishop Mariann Budde, who oversees the church that Trump made his stop at for his precious photo-op, was “outraged.”

She blasted the president for using the church as a “prop” while “holding a bible, one that declares that God is love and when everything he has said and done is to inflame violence.”

The protests have gone worldwide. Trump has handled the civil unrest as well as he did when he bankrupted a casino. We didn’t expect much from this morally bankrupt president, but he’s not even pretending to care.
