Donald Trump is currently in London for a round of NATO meetings and frankly, it’s going as terribly as we all expected. Having not even been there an entire 24 hours, Trump has already managed to nearly trip down some stairs and launch a nasty attack against French President Emmanual Macron.
While I’m sure Donald’s fellow NATO members were already prepared for a plethora of immature and ridiculous Trump antics, it seems that Macron isn’t willing to take the American president’s nonsense lying down.
During a joint press conference between the two world leaders today, Donald tried his had at pawning off some of the ISIS fighters captured in Syria onto the country of France. But rather than entertain his notions, laugh at his half-baked “joke,” or even simply brush them off like others have done, Macron was quick to smack down Trump’s “bright” idea.
“We have a tremendous amount of captured fighters, ISIS fighters over in Syria, and they’re all under lock and key, but many are from France, many are from Germany, the UK,” Trump stated in his typical, weird, half-joking jargon. “They’re mostly from Europe … would you like some nice ISIS fighters? I can give them to you. You can take every one you want.”

“Let’s be serious,” Macron fired back. “The very last numbers of fighters on the ground are the fighters coming from Syria, from Iraq. It is true that you have foreign fighters coming from Europe, but this is a tiny minority of the overall problem we have… second, some of the foreign fighters are being in Iraq because of the — we have a humanitarian approach for children. Very organized. And we’ll have a case-by-case approach. But we need to finish war against ISIS and don’t make any mistakes. The number one problem are not the foreign fighters. This is the ISIS fighters in the regiment and you have more and more of these fighters due to the situation today.”
“This is why he’s a great politician,” Trump responded as he fumbled to recover from the French president’s blistering response. “That was one of the greatest non-answers I’ve ever heard. And that’s okay.”
While it’s pretty clear that all of Trump’s fellow world leaders think he’s a blubbering blow-hard with a serious ego problem, it’s always nice to see one of them call him out on it.
