Rand Paul really didn't like this.

We’re not sure what has happened with Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) but he has gone to great lengths to defend the indefensible, and the Kentucky Republican continued down that path on Sunday by claiming that Trump’s Ukraine scandal is really about the “president’s” anti-corruption effort. This is the same alleged “anti-corruption” president who just paid $2 million to eight charities as part of a settlement in which the former reality show star admitted he misused funds raised by the Donald J. Trump Foundation to promote his “presidential” bid and pay off business debts.

Paul was interviewed by host Jake Tapper on State of the Union and when the U.S. Senator tried to claim that the “president” is anti-corruption, Jake Tapper listed all of Trump’s associates who have been convicted and also noted the former reality show star’s misdeeds.

“This is a president whose former attorney Michael Cohen, former campaign chairman Paul Manafort, former national security adviser Mike Flynn, former adviser Roger Stone, former deputy campaign chair Rick Gates, former associate George Papadopoulos, all of them have been convicted of federal crimes,” Tapper said. “In addition, last year, Trump University settled a $25 million fraud lawsuit. Last month, President Trump admitted to misusing his own charitable foundation’s money and was ordered to pay $2 million. Do you really think President Trump is concerned about rooting out corruption?”

Sen. Paul responded by somehow dismissing the facts that Tapper listed.

Watch:

One thing Rand is good at is tap dancing around the facts to defend his “president.”

Paul blocked a resolution last month that would reaffirm the Senate’s support for whistleblower protections, then accused Democrats of “fake outrage.” To make the matter even more bizarre, the Kentucky Republican sat on the Homeland Security Committee that authorized the Whistleblower Protection Act in late 2017. Paul has been chomping at the bit to reveal the whistleblower’s name. In addition, Rand Paul jetted off to Russia last year and delivered a letter for Trump.

So, Paul wants us to believe that so many people in Trump’s orbit have been convicted of crimes but the “president” is innocent. Sounds legit!
