Whether Trump likes it (or is willing to accept it) or not, his time in the White House is almost over. And now that he’s completely ruined his standing in his original homeplace of New York, it’s clear that Donald and the family will be headed down to Florida to waste away the rest of his days in political ruin.

Donald and Melania changed their residency to the Sunshine State back in 2019, with the New York Times reporting, “Each of the Trumps filed a ‘declaration of domicile’ saying that the Mar-a-Lago Club, Mr. Trump’s resort in Palm Beach, will be their permanent residence.”

However, now that the time for the big move is closing in, Town & Country reports that many Palm Beach locals are less than stoked about their new neighbor.

Some reports have indicated that the Trump clan might make the move south before the holidays and just stay, as Donald fears “looking like a loser.” The possibility of the impending early move had the publication asking around for thoughts and feelings on the topic.

One local businesswoman said what I’m sure many Palm Beach residents are thinking: “I can’t imagine anything worse.”

The report notes that the opinions on Trump’s new place of residence are pretty divided, but several Palm Beach-ers noted that Donald never made any effort to become a part of the community, even before his time as president.

One resident said, “Palm Beach is very divided.” The publication went on to report, “On the one hand, Trump would bring visibility to the town as a tourist attraction, helping it in difficult economic times. On the other, many of the area’s residents would be just as happy without the hoi polloi milling about—and they say Trump was never really one of them anyway.”

“Trump was here frequently before his presidency and never left his own clubs, so there isn’t really a reason to think post-presidency would be any different,” one Palm Beach local explained, adding that Trump and his family “always chose to be very secluded within Mar-a-Lago.”

Another resident stated, “He has never patronized any shops or restaurants, either before or during his presidency. I highly doubt that will change. Honestly, in all the years that he’s lived here, whether part-time or permanently, he has never attempted to become a contributing member of the community.”

Leta Foster, the local interior designer who said she couldn’t “imagine anything worse” said that Palm Beach is teeming with some cynicism about whether or not Trump will even leave D.C.

” I can’t remember who told me this, but someone asked a policeman in town, ‘Are you still going to be closing the area when Trump leaves office?’” Foster recalled. “And the policeman responded, ‘If he leaves office.’”

Locals claim that Mar-a-Lago isn’t the same place it used to be since Trump rose to the presidency.

“There was incredible attrition,” Palm Beach resident Stephen Stolman said. “Dozens of charities had to relocate their galas. Mar-a-Lago had become too radioactive.”
