The majority of us here in the States know that Donald Trump is quite literally the worst thing that has ever happened to this country. The handful of right-wing nuts who don’t agree with that statement likely know that it’s true, they just don’t want to admit it, as that would mean they can’t party in public with their racism on full display.
However, those of us living through this nightmare in real-time aren’t the only ones who know how monumentally screwed up this whole thing is.
I’m sure you’ve seen the memes all over social media, comparing the United States to the neighbors in the crackhouse under Canada. And while the meme is certainly funny in a morbid “Oh my God this sucks” kind of way, it’s also sort of true.
There’s simply no denying that the rest of the world knows how awful things truly are in the US under the reign of Donald Trump.

Recently, a Pew survey of American-allied countries was conducted regarding the United State’s response to the coronavirus pandemic. And to say the least, none of our friends around the globe are impressed with our “leadership.”
A report from Vice on the survey reads:
In some countries that are closely allied with the United States, such as the United Kingdom, confidence is the lowest it’s ever been (41 percent). In others, such as France and Germany, only around 25 percent of respondents have confidence in the U.S., matching the country’s poor global standing in March 2003, when the United States invaded Iraq.
In all but one of the 13 countries included in the survey—which includes countries from western Europe and east Asia, as well as Australia and Canada—a clear majority have an unfavorable view of the United States. Among those 13 countries, just 16 percent of those surveyed expressed confidence in Trump to do the right thing regarding world affairs, as opposed to 83 percent who did not have confidence in him to do that. Just 34 percent of those surveyed held a favorable view of the United States in general.
The only country that did not hold an unfavorable view of the U.S. is South Korea, with which Trump has attempted to broker a deal to end long standing tensions with North Korea. Fifty-nine percent of those polled hold a favorable view of the United States, but just 17 percent have confidence in Trump, down drastically from 46 percent last year. By comparison, South Korea’s confidence in former U.S. President Barack Obama in South Korea was at 88 percent toward the end of his term in office.
In a matter of less than four years, the United States of America has gone from one of the most respected countries in the world to the joke of the entire planet. And it’s all thanks to one guy with a bad spray tan and an ill-fitting suit.
